Also known as Arabian Markets, Souks are a cluster of shopping outlets where all types of goods can be purchased, sold or exchanged. In the ancient times, the dhows from China, far East, Ceylon and India used to unload their cargoes and the goods were haggled to the souks situated just adjacent to the docks. Over the years the assortment of goods on sale has transformed from species, perfumes or silks to that of electronic goods and the latest outlandish consumer styles.
The famous souks which are still considered as traditional depictions in Dubai are:
Gold Souk
Dubai Gold Souk is famous throughout the world for its traditionally designed narrow streets possessing shops lustrous with glassy ornaments made in either 22 or 24 carat gold. The shops can be observed exhibiting gold bangles, necklaces, rings, ear rings and what not. Gold prices in Dubai are the lowest in the world. None of the jewellery here can be found less than 18 carat. Haggling on the prices is not only a tradition but also worth relishing. One may feel incomplete without it so it’s better to plan your visit to this Gold Souk for around 2 to 3 hours. Though the shops are open till 10:00 pm, the best time to shop here is the late afternoon as the initial non surety may get lost quickly later.
Khan Murjan
Khan Murjan has been developed as a cultural and historical paradise for the craftsmen and artisans. Rebuilt by Wafi, this souk in Dubai offers more than 150 stalls projecting specialized as well as traditional crafts with Adalucian as well as mountainous influences from Southern Spain and Afghanistan respectively. The two-level cavernous souk makes itself complete with the restaurants, meeting areas and coffee shops.
Souk Al Bahar

The aromas of Arabic as well as international perfumes will take you to another world perhaps. A great hit here are the oily scents and also the incense sticks.
